MEXICO MAGIC

When the plane touched down in Mazatlan my stomach knotted up just a bit. I knew I was in for the fish of my life.

I arrived at the El Cardon Resort and was escorted to a beautiful luxury hotel room, right on the Pacific Ocean. The next morning, before daybreak, I took a 35 minute ride to El Salto Lake. El Salto is a 25, ooo acre impoundment that opened in 1990. For the next three days we got to the lake before daybreak and fished top water until first light. I caught a ton of huge bass on big Gunfish, Sammy and G-Splash in MS Black, Chartreuse Shad and Shell White.

As the sun and the temp rose and we fished deep for some green monsters. I was glad that I brought some 20ft LC Cranks. The hotter it got the more I caught fish on Carolina rigged Magnum Lizards. For the next three days I caught more than 150 fish over 6 pounds. My largest fish was just shy of 8 pounds. We didn’t even count the 5 pounders. My hook sets were so violent that my side was bruised black and blue from the butt of my rods. I was so tired that I could not have fished a fourth day. It was time to enjoy the Pacific surf, sunsets and memories of the biggest bass of my life time. It was truly Mexico Magic.
