This week I went Bass fishing at Lake Perris, CA with Kyle from Anglers Marine. We started fishing at 6 in the morning. Amazingly, Kyle’s very first catch with the RTO 1.5 (Color: Pearl Threadfin Shad) was a 9 pound Bass!! However, thick fogs surrounded us and I wasn’t able to film in the beginning but I started filming after the sun came up so please stay tuned for it!
As for me, I continued to fish with some crankbaits for about 2 hours starting 7am including our new LV 500 Spin (vibration) which will be released this year, but got no bites! I decided to change locations assuming the Bass will go into areas with reeds. I used the pitching technique and was able to catch 2 Bass with the Wacky rig. I finally crossed my highest number of Bass caught in a day!
Then Kyle did it again. This time it wasn’t with a hardbait, but with a Texas rig & caught a 7-8 pound Bass!!
I usually only use hard baits for Bass fishing and it was actually my first time learning how to fish with warms. From now on I would like to try my best in properly using both hard and soft baits depending on the condition. And my goal this year is to catch some good size Bass!
The week after next, I will be heading to Vail Lake which is currently in the greatest condition! I heard they are catching over 70 in one day! Please stay tuned!!

I am having a meeting with pro angler Omori Takahiro regarding lure colors for next season. We had a huge debate about having the orange dots or not makes a difference on your mood of fishing. However, the most important thing is that you throw in the most appropriate lure at the right time… and that led on to deeper subjects and now we’ve decided to go to the electronics store tomorrow.

It is the final day of Mr. Sasaki’s US Bass fishing tour.
We went to the perfect place for his last day here – Lake Vail which is known to be a Bass fishing paradise. We also came here with last year’s H-1 winner, Mr. Ito as well.
On this day we had Mr. Art Hill to be our guide. He is a very popular & professional fishing guide in this area. The weather was perfectly sunny and surprisingly there were already 9 boats out by the time we got there. Usually on a regular weekday there would only be about 2 boats out around this time…
First thing Mr. Sasaki did was he threw in a Crankbait but lost his fish! Since it wasn’t quite a good start, he was concerned & mentioned, “That loss might affect me later…” However, soon after he caught his very first Bass of the day with the LV-RTO 150! He’s finally starting to performed like he did in the H-1 tournaments!
We then changed locations and started fishing with vibrating Crankbaits. After fully enjoying that, we decided to move to another location to aim at a deeper range where they have 2 bumps. A lot of 5 pound class Bass may be located in this area. Many would bite on Drop Shots & Jigs, but unfortunately they were all small size Bass… So we changed locations again.
On our way to the next destination we found a spot with a lot of baitfish so we did drop shot fishing there and got some catches. For about an hour, Mr. Sasaki himself handled the ship and continued to fish with hard baits. But couldn’t get any catches… We only had an hour left to fish and we decided to go back to the area with 2 bumps where we caught the most fish with better possibility of catching a big one. As we hoped, Mr. Sasaki caught the biggest Bass of the day with a Crankbait! He was extremely happy & was able to end his US fishing trip with great satisfaction!
I wonder who will be the next Angler Of the Year? We definitely can’t keep our eyes off the 2013 H-1 GPX tournament next year!
I hope I get to see the actual competition on site next year! It’ll be nice if I could hand over the ticket to the AOY winner at his last round.
It’s finally time for Mr. Sasaki’s first time Bass fishing in the United States! And of course his guide is the famous pro angler, Brent Ehrler at Lake Perris. Last year Brent guided the previous H-1 champion in Diamond Valley Lake, but due to prior fishing information, we decided to go to Lake Perris which is also Brent’s home lake.
Recently in Los Angeles, it’s been raining for 3 days which is very unusual here. And our fishing day started in a rainy weather condition so Brent predicted it would be some deep range fishing.
The very first bite in the early morning was made by Brent with a jig. Afterwards, Mr. Sasaki caught his very first Bass (in the US) with a down shot and of course we took a snap at that! At around noon, the rain had stopped and as we moved to different locations we threw in some Crankbaits but got absolutely no bites. Using the winning lure “Big Bud” had to be carried over to the next day. From the beginning to the end, Mr. Sasaki expanded his slow fishing method with a down shot and ended the day catching 4 Bass!
Also as a Basser magazine editor, he didn’t forget to take some photos of his own for an article.
In addition to Bass, we also caught a Blue Gill! How rare is that!
Today is another day of Bass fishing. Mr. Sasaki who won the H-1 GPX competition this year is here in America now. Today is a little slow so I am Drop Shot fishing. I can’t wait to go shallow fishing…
