DFM: First Catfish Fishing Experience
This week I’ve gone Catfish fishing for the very first time at a state park. The procedure is quite simple – a friend of mine had garlic marinated Mackerels as its bait the night before and we started early in the morning at 6am to cast the hooked bait in the center of the pond. Then we just waited until we got a bite. While we waited for the Catfish to bite and there were most likely Bass in the pond, we decided to aim for some Bass that are in the shore area. I lowered my position and quietly as possible, I cast to my target! Then it must of been beginners luck! With Mr. Shibata’s (aka Taicho) bait, the Blade Cross 110 (TRG), I caught a small size Bass! And as Taicho explained the Bass was firmly hooked on the center hook and the rear hook on its gill. Then riding ended there!! My friend caught a Bass as well! As for the Catfish, we caught 2 this day! I got to experience pulling in the Catfish and it was a different sense of heavy pull than a Bass or Halibut. Next, I would like to challenge on night Catfish fishing!
