Classic Winning Reel

This is the reel used in the Bassmaster Classic when pro angler, Omori Takahiro won. Ever since that moment, it hasn’t been used and is stored very safely. The line is also kept as it was. And from that wonderful moment of that victory, this reel has stayed exactly the same and stopped in time. This extraordinary item is sitting in the Lucky Craft museum. Mr. Omori said, “if only it is kept safe…” and kindly handed it to us. It was very much like Mr. Omori to have such refined agreement. Maybe I will display it at next year’s Fishing Show.

Fish and Chips

I just finished the Fish and Chips tournament that Mark Jeffreys from BASS ZONE.com put on at Grand lake in Oklahoma . The format for the tournament is a team event that gives anglers points for their performance in a poker tournament, followed by a two day team fishing event…

Fishing with Brent

Filed under: Bass Fishing — admin @ 10:32 pm

I had so much fun fishing with Brent. During late summer, Topwater fishing is absolutely the #1 choice. Because I was having so much fun fishing, later I realized I got Hyperthermia… I even got dehydration and I was barely able to work the next day~. But it was still fun!! Isn’t this Blue Gill adorable?

Tournament Shirts

At last, we had Mr. Omori sign his 2009 & 2010 tournament shirts which he fought through tough times with. The one with the silver line design would be the 2009 version and the one with the red line is the 2010 version. It is planned to be handed to the winner by drawing at the Fishing Show held in Tokyo and Osaka next year. Please look forward to it.

This week I was fortunate enough to be asked to film a Lost Lake episode for WFN.  I cannot give out the lake, but it is near my home here in Southern California and I had never been to it before.  All I can say is “Wow, what a day.”  The fish were chewing and I wasn’t quite ready for what I found.

When we arrived at the lake I saw the water was stained and there were a lot of docks, I knew the brand new Pearl Threadfin Shad color Lucky Craft BDS-3 baits that I picked up last weekend at the Monster Bass Jam were going to be the ticket. By the end of the day there were three big fish swimming around that lake with some new lip jewelry.  Yep, I broke off three big fish and as much as I’d like to give you all the details you’ll have to wait until the show airs in February – March of 2011 to see it.  I will tell you this much, it should make for good TV.

The next few days I am going to work on some sponsorship stuff and working on tackle preparation and a few other details I need to get ironed out. The off-season is almost as much work in-season but, at least I am home with family at the end of the day.

Next week Kelley and I head for Hawaii for a vacation and its going to be nice laying toes up on a beautiful Hawaiian beach for a few days and getting some rest.  We will do some hikes to a few waterfalls.

Another item on the horizon is the possibility of a new bait by Lucky Craft. I had dinner with Minoru Segawa of Lucky Craft last week and we are excited about this new shallow running crankbait. It will be very different from the other shallow runners on the market and I am pretty excited about its potential both in the water and in the stores. Nothing’s set in stone right now but, we are shooting for a mid 2011 release date in time for ICast 2011.

Mr. Omori’s Crankbait

Mr. Omori’s Crankbait techniques has made so much progression that lately there is no use for the Spinnerbait anymore… The image shows Mr. Omori’s secret Crankbait box, but we will specially show a small portion of it. Certain people may understand by looking at this image.

T.O. Part 1

Filed under: Bass Fishing — admin @ 2:29 am

This is part 2 of my trip to Texas. Any Japanese angler would know Takahiro Omori, a widely known pro angler who also kindly welcomed us to his place.
Takahiro Omori is the champion of the 2004 Bassmaster Classic and is also the very first Japanese champion! He has achieved his dream he kept as a young boy. I took advantage of this rare opportunity to ask some questions to Mr. Omori. I decided to ask him what he’s been most careful about and what he worked on this season. He answered that he’s been the most careful with his diet and his lifestyle. He’s been taking very nutritious balanced food and keeping the correct lifestyle for his body. He doesn’t drink any liquid that has sugar in them such as sodas and juices. He also maintains a good sleeping habit and life structure.
And for fishing, he says it is important to keep obtaining information from other sources and to be able to keep evolving and changing due to the circumstances. This passionate talking continued for about an hour. I was so grateful to hear these passionate and very meaningful stories from Mr. Omori! It is very inspirational hearing from a pro.
We had also filmed a special interview with him and it is planned to be sent by the end of this year. It is exclusively for the Lucky Craft Network members and will be seen on the December edition of the Enjoy DVD, so please stay tuned!
In this rare opportunity of mine, I also got an autographed shirt from Mr. Omori!! Very thrilled!!
Mr. Omori, I will be looking forward next year for some outbreak!! I will go root for you next year again!!!

Going Home

I told you last week about the fishing trip I had with Andy Pfau and I just got the pictures back from him. These are from a couple of the bigger fish that we caught on the trip, and as you can see, it rained all day long; really hard. But, we had a great time despite the rain, and these are the fruits of our labor…

Gary Dobyns Blog

I am pumped up about a hunting trip to Nevada later this week. I pulled a once in a lifetime Elk tag. I’ve been applying for it for over twenty years and I finally got one. I don’t think I can even apply again for another ten years. I could be gone for a couple weeks but, I could find a quality animal in a couple days you never know. We’ll be headed out near Pioche Nevada where the record has been set the last few times, with the last being in 2004. This is a super quality hunt and to say I am pumped up about it is an understatement.

After the Hunt I am headed to Texas to film a TV show, The Big Bass Challenge, on Choke Canyon, Lake Fork, Falcon Lake and possibly Amistad. We were there a few weeks ago and I was catching them really well on a Staysee 90 and a Pointer 100 in Phantom Chartreuse shad, a color I came up with a few years ago. I will also have Chartreuse Shad and Ghost minnow with me because I don’t walk out the door without those colors.

The Big Bass Challenge television show will feature Mark Pack a great Texas angler, Cody Roberson of the Army Bass Anglers, Justin Rackley former Texas A&M angler and national collegeiate bass champion and myself. We will each fish solo with a camera on board and we come back and go over what happened. It’s really a neat idea for a show in that you get four different perspectives of breaking down the same water. The show begins airing in 2011 and will be on Versus Network and the World Fishing Network.

On the Dobyns Rods end of things we just finished up a trade show in Northern California where I was a guest speaker and I was able to show off our line of rods to many anglers. Sales were good there but, just spreading the word about the rods and supporting our dealer is just a valuable.

We’ve also been hard at work at putting together a demo program that will allow anglers a chance to try out one of our rods without any cost. These rods will be available though many of our dealers. I truly feel that is the best way to get anglers to understand how well these rods are made.

The Omori Way of the Crankbait Rules

This is the Omori way of Crankbait rules. Very simple and clear. You can probably see what he is trying to say just by looking at it.
