A Bunch Going On

This has been a good week; productive with a little bit of fun thrown in too.

I worked out most of the week, as I always do in the offseason. I’m trying to get in as good as shape as possible with the season getting closer and closer. When I’m in shape, I think better, and have better stamina to go as hard as I need to all day…

September Fishing

I did a lot of project work around the house this weekend around the girls’ soccer, and a special breakfast with the girls.
I started getting the yard ready for winter, and I even sanded and re-stained a door.
While I was working around the house, I remembered that it is September, and that this month has a tendency to be one of the toughest fishing months we face…

Production is in FULL Swing!

Filed under: Optimum Baits — admin @ 10:03 am

Lucky Craft has asked us to match some of their beautiful hard bait colors in the AA & Optimum
Swimbaits. We started production 2 weeks ago and the baits are turning out wonderful. Anytime you manufacture new colors there is a lot of excitement and anticipation at the factory. I am quite
pleased on how these Lucky Craft colors are looking and a few of them are making it into my tacklebox. Our baits are all hand poured one at a time in Southern California so we are taking our time to ensure these baits will be real fish producers. There are a total of 10 Custom Lucky Craft Colors. A sneak peak of the colors are attached below. We are looking forward to hearing your fish results!

#570 GOLD SPARK
#571 EDO YAMABUKI
#572 PHARAOH MEKKI BLUE
#573 LEMON LIME CHART
#574 FANTASY MOSS
#575 MATTE CHART

A Personal Thank You from Skeet

I get a lot of email throughout the year here at Skeet Reese Inc.com from fans. Many of them are fishing questions, some are autograph requests and some are just to say hi after meeting me on the road. I read all of them, try to answer the fishing questions on the site, and try to answer the others as I can…

Rockfish

Filed under: Salt Water Fishing — admin @ 4:31 am September 17, 2010

Date: 2010/9/16
Place: San Pedro

I was able to catch this month’s fishing theme: catching a Halibut. So this time, I decided to go to San Pedro and departed from 22nd Street Landing. I went fishing with my friend Mr. “K”, who previously went to Redondo Beach with me when we couldn’t catch anything.

We departed from San Pedro and took 1 ½ hour to the fishing spot! There was no wind and the boat barely swayed so we didn’t have to worry about getting motion sickness! On this boat ride, there were only about 10 people on the boat so we also didn’t have to worry about having enough space! I was full of hope and excitement!

Unlike last time in Redondo Beach, our target fish isn’t from the surface area so we weren’t able to use the Flash Minnow. Instead, we used the Butterfly and dropped it 360ft deep underwater and waited until we got a hit.

Once we dropped the Butterfly down to the bottom, we felt couple small hits. But since the waves were going so fast the Butterfly kept streaming away. And that meant no hit. So the couple minutes we had after we drop it was all we got!!

We then changed our spot and tried again! We waited patiently for a hit… We continued getting small hits, but to pull up a fish, it was a little hard because it needed to be the right moment in time. So we gave it a little thought and we decided to pull it up right at the same time we felt a hit! In result, we caught so many! The sizes were small… but I believe out of all the people on the boat, we probably caught the most fishes. We were saying to each other, “I want to catch a bigger fish~!” with much more confidence. But of course, we just kept catching small sizes and wasn’t able to catch any big Rockfish.

This was my 2nd time fishing from the 22 Street Landing, and I learned that using the fishing technique I used last time didn’t work this time. And how you get hits from fishes and the timing of when I need to pull also differs each day!!
I wasn’t able to use the Flash Minnow this time, but I think I had an excellent experience on this fishing trip.

I will see you all next time!

Striper Galore

Well… you know all those days where you try your hardest and throw every lure in your tackle box twice and you don`t catch anything…
You wonder why you continue to wake up so early and go fishing…. It`s because of days like I had today. I went fishing with Optimum Pro Staffer and guide, Art Hill, my good friend Anthony and myself. The three of us caught 72 striped bass in 4 hours of fishing.
This was an incredible day to say the least.
I was extremely lucky to be asked to go fishing on this trip because we went to a lake that is not open to for fishing throughout the year.
It is called Lake Matthews in Southern California and it is owned by the Metropolitan Water District and is used strictly for drinking water. The problem is the stripers are so abundant that every year for 2 days they ask about 20 boats to go in and catch the stripers and remove them from the lake.
We did our part and caught fish non stop. After a couple stops we pulled up to a long point and started casting the AA`s & Optimum 4 inch plastic swimbait tails and it was on. The fish were loving the swimbaits and we were loving the fun!
So the next time I go out and don`t have so much luck… I will remember today!

Good Luck & Have Fun Fishing!

Soccer Dad

I’m having a blast at home these days.

I’ve been relegated to being Soccer Dad five days a week; and I love it. Lea and Courtney are both on soccer teams, and each of them have practice two days a week along with games on Saturday, and it is a lot of fun to see their personalities on the field…
