On Saturday June 9,2012 Peter and I decided to fish at San Onofre State Beach. Reports from this area from the past few weeks have shown that people were catching nice sized halibut and white seabass. We both decided to throw the Lucky Craft Flash Minnow 110SP, Peter’s color choice was Sexy Geisha Queen Sardine and I went with Ghost White Sea Bass. I caught my first fish on the incoming tide, this fish hit the lure almost as soon as it hit the water! I bring it closer to shore and I thought that it might be a juvenile white sea bass. But after beaching the fish we identified it to be a good sized Yellowfin Croaker at 16 inches! Soon after peak high tide Peter hooks up on his first halibut from the surf! This fish was caught using a steady medium retrieve. We measured it at 20 inches, just 2 inches short of legal. No matter though because Peter was really excited about his catch. Be careful fishing this spot because there is alot rocks to get stuck on. I would suggest fishing high abrasion resistant line like 15# mono, 30# spectra, or bigger. Until next time folks, tight lines!
