最近の南カルフォルニアは雨天が多く、天候が不安定です。しかし、年内中にはリーガルを1匹釣りたいと思い大型を狙うため、ボルサチカに来ました。しかし、この日は外海からの流れ・波が強く海面が日本海の荒海ようで岩場での釣行は少し危険な予感が・・・。怪我をしてはダメです。安全第一！！この状況の中での釣果は期待できないと判断し1時間程度で、カレントの無いロングビーチに移動することにした。

ロングビーチはボルサチカと違い、流れ込みなどが無いいわゆるワンドになっているため、安全性も高く・ルアーテストでアクションの確認・リトリーブスピードの速遅によってルアーの動きの違い分かりやすく非常にルアーマンにとっては最適な場所である。そこで、来期発売予定（ビッグゲームフェア）のポインター140Ｆをキャスト。シャローをゆっくりと蛇行するアクション！！う～ん・・・これで何がつれるでしょう？来期が楽しみです。さて、釣果の方はというと、午後近く潮が下がり始めた頃ぐらいにFM120DDで小型ヒラメを1匹ゲット！！

ボトムをゆっくり引いてくると、カッツ～ンっと来る感じでした。あ～リーガルが釣れない・・・再度がんばります。

“New Lure”

Lately in California there have been rainy days and the weather’s been pretty unstable. Despite the fact, I came to Bolsa Chica again in hopes to catch at least one legal size fish before the end of this year. Unfortunately on this day the flow and waves of the water from the open sea was very strong and it reminded me of the rough Sea of Japan. So I knew it was going to be pretty dangerous to fish from the rocks… It’s not worth getting hurt. Better be safe than sorry!! I figured it was going to be almost impossible to catch anything in this kind of condition so after about an hour of trying I decided to relocate to Long Beach where there isn’t any current.

Unlike Bolsa Chica, Long Beach has no water coming in from the open sea so it is a lot safer. This place is great for lure testing and observing its actions – you can clearly see the difference in its movement depending on the retrieving speed. I started off using the lure scheduled to be released next year (Big Game Fair), the Pointer 140F. It has a slow meandering action through the shallow area!! Hmmmm… I wonder if I will catch anything with this? I’m excited to see next year. Well, as for my fishing result, after the tide went down in the afternoon, I changed my lure to the FM120DD and caught a small size Halibut!!

I slowly retrieved in the bottom area and then I felt a bite. But I immediately knew it wasn’t close to a legal size fish… I’ll try harder next time.

またまた、ボルサチカに釣行です。今日は、日の出前から先約が・・絶好のヒラメポイントに陣取られてしまいました。

仕方なく、岩場の中央付近からキャスト開始・・・開始１時間後、先約釣り人が本日１匹目のヒラメを釣り上げ、ルアーにも反応してくれることを願い、FM110からアクションの細かいPT100に変更。さらに時間は経過し、先約の釣り人が間違いなくリーガルのヒラメを連続で釣り上げる。やはり、生餌を使っているだけ釣果に差でている模様なので、ポイント移動し彼らが釣っている間に入れてもらい釣行を再スタート！！やはり釣れません。両サイドの餌釣りには小型ではあるがヒラメが連続バイト。ルアーを完全に見切られていそうな気配です。

そんな彼らが使用していた餌は、イワシではなく生きたアンチョビ、しかもちょっと大きめ。次回へのヒントになりそうです。来週は、あのルアーで再チャレンジを決めました。その名も『ポインター１２８』！！　これで攻めて見たいと思います。

しかし、今日はいい発見ができました。水があまりにも綺麗なので橋の上からは日ごろ確認できない底の状況・深場・浅場・岩の位置が明白に分かり、ここの場所のどこにヒラメがいるのか、妄想が膨らみます！！

“Condition of the Fishing Location than Outcome”

I came to Bolsa Chica again for this week’s fishing report. Unfortunately when I got there, the best Halibut fishing spot was taken already…

Reluctantly I started casting from the middle of the rocky area… After an hour of fishing the fisherman who got to the spot first caught his first Halibut. I was hoping they would react to my lure also. I then switched my FM110 to a PT100 which creates more detailed action. As time progressed, again the same fisherman continued to catch legal size Halibuts. But I’m sure there is a big difference in using live bait compared to hard lures. I decided to go over to there place and had them squeeze me in. But I couldn’t catch anything… Both of the fishermen next to me who were using live baits kept catching small size Halibuts. I felt like the fishes completely knew what they were dealing with.

They weren’t using Sardine as live bait, but pretty large Anchovy. And that actually was a very nice clue for next time. Next week I’m going to challenge Halibut fishing again with that lure. With the “Pointer 128”!!! I want to try again with this.

Well at least I had some great discovery. The water that day was so nice and clear I was able to observe the bottom surface, deep and shallow areas and where the rocks were located from the top of the bridge which is usually not possible to do. This gave me so much hope and imagination on where the Halibuts may be.

世界中のラッキークラフトファンの皆さま～！Daily Flash Minnow Weekly Reportになります！年間駐車パスを購入したことにより、使わなきゃ損！ボルサチカにきました。いまだ、この釣行場では釣果は得られず特大ヒラメを夢見て早朝よりキャスト開始です。満潮前のこの時間帯、海側から河川に向かって流れがあるため前回とは逆流れパターン！！ルアーをキャストし流れを計算した上でリトリーブし、ポイントを選ばなくてはならない。いや～ボルサチカ面白いです。

定番のFM110（パールカラー）から満遍なく扇状キャストを繰り返すが当たりは一向になく、時間だけが過ぎ満潮になる。潮位も高いのでPT100DD(MSアンチョビ)に変更！これが当たりました！！なんと、ファーストキャストで大物がガッツンと喰いました。竿の曲がり今までに無い曲がりです。しかも、かなりの引きが強くストライパー釣り近い手応え！！やっと、特大のヒラメを予感させてくれてます！慎重にリトリーブをし、走られながらも何とか岩場に引き寄せてきたが・・・・残念なことに、水中から浮き上がるその姿、ヒラメではなく回遊魚！？赤い？？なんでしょう？見たことのない魚です。一旦、陸に引き上げ撮影をし、海釣り師匠のＴ内さんに写真をみてもらい分かりました。コビナという魚だそうです。一般的には、餌釣りで釣れる魚で良く接岸してくるようです。初ＥＳＧロッドで釣り上げた魚に乾杯コーラです。

“What is this!?”

Since I newly bought the annual parking pass, it’ll be a waste if I don’t make the most out of it! So I went back to Bolsa Chica this week where I haven’t got any catches yet. I started fishing early in the morning hoping to catch a large size Halibut. Before high tide around this time, the ocean water flows into the river so it is the opposite direction from last time!! I cast my lure and I needed to calculate the water flow while retrieving. It was important to choose your points. Bolsa Chica is fun!

I used the usual FM110 (Pearl color) and continuously cast, but didn’t get any bites. Time just passed and it became fully high tide. The water level was pretty high so I changed my lure to the PT100DD (MS Anchovy)! And this worked!! On my very first cast a big one ate it. I’ve never seen my rod so bent before. Not only that, it had a strong pull and it even felt close to Striper fishing! I was excited to think I finally caught a large size Halibut but……. Unfortunately when I pulled it up it wasn’t a Halibut but something else? It’s red? What is this? I’ve never seen such a fish before. I pulled it up to the shore and took a picture of it and asked my saltwater master T what it was. He told me it is a fish called Covina. I guess it is generally caught with fish baits and often comes along the pier. It was my very first fish caught with the ESG rod! Cheers with some Coke!

世界中のラッキークラフトファンの皆さま～！Daily Flash Minnow Weekly Reportになります！友人から電話があり、ボルサチカで26インチのヒラメを釣ったとの連絡があり、翌日、車を走らせることにした。ここボルサチカは初めての釣行場で海の状況が読めないが実際に目にした風景がこれです。ヒラメ釣りの理想郷とでもいうのでしょうか！流れ込みあり、駆け上がりあり離岸流ともいわれる流れもあり、その付近は必ず地形の変化があることから、ベイトも溜まり易いため高確率でヒラメをゲットできるであろう！期待度大です。
この日は潮位の変化が少なく水位は安定していたが、以外にも河川からの流れが強くルアーが流される傾向で流れを計算した上でキャストをしなくてはならない。結構、悩まされました。いつも釣行に行くロングビーチでは流れがないので、思った通りにルアーを引き寄せることが出来たが、釣行場所によってやはり状況が違う・・勉強です。今回は釣果が得られなかったが次回もボルサチカにきてみます。

Sandyのワンポイントアドバイス
このコーナー流行るのでしょうか？気にせずに書いてきます。ブログを御覧の皆様でなにかＣＡ釣り状況の事や釣り場ポイントでご質問等がありましたら、書き込みお待ちしています。さて、今回はここのパーキングについて、ここボルサチカ駐車場はカルフォルニア州が管理しているため、1日のみの駐車料金がなんと＄１５です。高額です。そこでこんな裏技が・・年間パスを購入すればなんと丸1年＄１２５でパーキングし放題さらに！！カルフォルニア州内に数多くあります、ステートパーキングも使用可能、なんと素敵なのでしょうか！これ1枚で、今後釣行に行くだろう、マリブ・ハンティントン・コロナ・サンオノフェ・オーシャンサイド・サンディエイゴすべて使用可能に！これで、パーキングは問題ないです。ロングビーチ・レドンドビーチは含まれてませんので、ご注意を。

I got a call from a friend the other day and he told me he caught a 26in Halibut in Bolsa Chica. So I immediately headed there the very next day. It was my first time fishing here so I wasn’t quite sure what the water condition was like, but the image shown was what I first saw and it just looked perfect for Halibut fishing! There was good water flows, run ups, rip currents, and the terrain here is constantly changing which makes it easier for the baits to gather. And this means there is a higher chance for me to catch some Halibuts! I had high hopes this day!
There wasn’t too much change in tide on this day and the water level stayed pretty stable. However, the river water came in pretty strong and the lure had the tendency to drift away, so I needed to cast by adjusting to the water flow. That ended up making it very difficult for me to catch anything. In Long Beach where I usually go, there is barely any water flow so I had more control over my lure, but I realized that depending on each the location the condition is quite different… lesson learned. I wasn’t able to catch anything this day, but I am definitely coming back here again next time.

This time I will talk about the parking situation in Bolsa Chica. Here it is a California state managed parking lot so there is a fee of $15 for a day. It is quite pricey… But there’s other options! You can purchase an annual pass for $125 and you have unlimited parking for a year!! Not only that, you can use that pass anywhere that is considered state parking! How great is that! With this pass, I’m going to continue to challenge fishing in different places such as Malibu, Huntington Beach, Corona, San Onofre, Oceanside, and San Diego where the parking pass can be used in all these locations! Now I don’t have to worry too much on parking. It can not be used in Long Beach or Redondo Beach so please keep that I mind.

今週も引き続き、ヒラメをNEW ESG-Rodで釣行です。先週は雨の影響で釣行どころではありませんでした。1週間後のこの日は、最高のタイミング！上げ潮8から早朝釣行開始！しかも、海鳥豊富がベイト豊富なのだろう！？海面に飛び込み捕食中！ベイトが豊富なので活性も高いと駐車場でリグ。しかし、ジェティー向かい自分の目を疑った・・なんと今までに見たことないほど海面が真っ赤な状態です。赤潮なのでしょうか？ちょっと分かりませんが、後日調べてみます。ベイトは豊富に居ることは分かっているが、この水質の状態ではまったく、釣果は望めない・・。しかし、諦める分けにはなりません、ルアーを視認性のよいパール系ＤＤで底を極ゆっくりリトリーブ！パックっ～来ました！小型のヒラメです。貴重な1尾でしたが、撮影前に岩の間に落ちてしまいました・・・

最近は釣果数が上がりません、そろそろ釣行場所を変更を検討中です。
余談ですが、午後にイルカが湾内に出現！！しかも、三頭！　アメリカはいいね～～！

Sandyのワンポイントヒラメ攻略法:
マズメ時など活性の高い時はファーストリトリーブの方が効果的です。しかし、もっと大事なのはその日のフィールドの明るさ・水質によって、リトリーブスピードを変化させた方が良い。暗いときはゆっくり・明るくなるにつれて早く巻きルアーを見極められないようにすると良い。

“Bad Condition”

Continuing from last week, I went Halibut fishing with my new ESG Rod again. Last week the weather condition was horrible due to the rain, but this week was in perfect condition! I started fishing early morning along with the rising tide! There were a bunch of seabirds flying in the water which also meant there were plenty of fishes! So I got my rig from the parking lot and headed to the jetty. Then on my way, I couldn’t believe my own eyes… I’ve never seen the ocean like that before, it was all red! Was it red tide? I couldn’t understand, but decided to look it up later. I knew there were plenty of baits, but with this water condition, I couldn’t expect to catch anything… Though, I didn’t want to give up! I decided to use a lure color that is more visible – a pearl color. I also used a DD (Deep Diver) and very slowly retrieved the deeper range. Then I got a bite! It was a small size Halibut! It was my one valuable fish I caught that day, but it accidentally fell between rocks right before I was able to take a picture…

Lately I’ve been having a tough time catching fishes, so I’m thinking of changing my fishing locations.

This is completely off subject, but dolphins appeared by the bay!! And I saw 3 of them! America’s great~~!

Sandy’s Halibut Catching Method:
In early dawn and/or when the fishes are the most active, fast retrieving is more effective. However, what is more important is the condition – how dark/bright the field is and the water condition. Depending on that, you need to change up your retrieving speed.
When it is dark, retrieve slowly and as it gets brighter fasten the retrieving so they don’t realize that it’s a lure.

今週はカルフォルニアに珍しく雨が2日間降り、翌日の釣行は雨の影響でコンディションが悪くなり、釣果は期待薄です。釣行当日、案の定水の状況は極度の濁りとゴミが浮遊している状態。釣果は得られないことはだいたい検討がついています。しかし、今回は釣果よりも・・日本本社からソルト用新ロッド2本を頂きましたので、ロッドの感触を確かめたくキャストを開始。さすがＥＳＧロッド！最高です。以前使っていたロッドよりティップのやわらかさバットの強さを感じグリップの長さ・持った感触も丁度良いロッドです。このロッドでバラシが減り、釣果が上がりそうです。この2本のＥＳＧロッドを使用して、これからも釣果を獲て、このロッドでどんな種類の魚と出会えることができるのか楽しみにです。

This week it unusually rained for 2 days in California. The next day because of the rain, fishing condition was bad and there was only little hope for a bite. Sure enough when I arrived at my fishing location, the water condition was very bad with high turbidity and a bunch of trash floating around. I expected to not catch anything due to this condition. But this time instead of fishing, I actually wanted to test out 2 new saltwater rods I received from the main office in Japan recently. So to see how these rods feel, I started casting. And…WOW! These new ESG rods are great! Compared to the previous rods, it has a softer tip, stronger bat, longer grip, and just the feel of the grip is perfect. With this rod I get less miss bites and I have a good feeling I’ll get more catches. I’m looking forward on seeing the types of fishes I’ll come across using these 2 new ESG rods.

今週は新ヒラメポイントへ向かい場所はというと、ヒラメといえば「ロングビーチジェティー」でしたが、いつも気にはしていた、反対側のシールビーチジェティーからの釣行です。シールジェティーの特徴は、ジェティー先端からの流れ込みとビーチ側（遠浅）が一級ポイントと情報をいただきました。新規ポイントでの釣果を上げる基本ポイントは、効率よく扇型にキャスト数を増やし、リトリーブスピーを一定に保ちポイントの移動を繰り返す事！また、レンジを表層から中層・深層と喰いのポイントに変化を入れながら釣行をすると良い。自分の場合は、FM110で表層を全体的に探り、PT100で中層、新商品のFM1200DD/PT100DDで深層というゲーム展開をするパターンが多く、この日もFM110でスタートし、全体をサーチ！！その後、最近のヒラメ釣行傾向からボトムノックをしながらFM120DDをゆっくりリトリーブ。これが！最近の爆釣パターンです。新ポイントでのボトムノックは非常に勇気がいります。海底に何が存在し、どのような地形かも分からない場合はルアーを失くす可能性も高い！！しかし！！釣果を上げたければ、勇気が必要です。その結果、出ました！！サイズは２０インチぐらいのヒラメをゲットです。今回の釣行である程度、地形と岩の位置が把握できましてので、次回はもう少しジェティー先端側から釣行をしてみたいと思います。

“A New Fishing Spot”

This week I went to a new Halibut fishing spot. When going Halibut fishing, I usually would go to the Long Beach Jetty, but this time I went to the other side where I had in mind for awhile – the Seal Beach Jetty. I got some information about this place that the water stream at the tip of the jetty and towards the beach side (shoal) is the best fishing spot. The basics in trying to get a better chance catching fish at a new location are to continuously and effectively cast and to keep your retrieving speed constant at a certain spot and repeating that action! It is also good to change your depth range from surface, middle area, to the bottom. As for me, I first used the FM110 to explore the surface, then the PT100 for the middle area, and finally for the bottom surface I used our newly released FM120DD & PT100DD!! So with the FM120DD I used my latest technique for Halibut fishing, the bottom knocking action with slow retrieving. This action has been a major success in catching fishes! However, at a new location this bottom knocking technique becomes a huge risk because you have no idea what the bottom surface is like and what obstacles exist and there is a high chance it may get caught into something and lose your lure!! BUT!! If you want to build your fishing skills you sometimes need to be bold. And in that result, I caught one!! The Halibut was about 20in. With my very first fishing experience here, I have a better understanding of where the rocks and such obstacles are located. So next time I want to go a little further towards the tip of the jetty.

釣り入門 (陸ぱっり編)

新入社員のＭＩＫＵさんと今回はビーチから釣行に挑戦です。これで、バス・船・岸つりの釣りの基本スタイル3種をすべて体験することになります。最近、釣果結果の高いロングビーチのジェティーから初のヒラメを釣り早朝からキャスト開始です。経験ゼロのＭＩＫＵさん！！キャストセンスは抜群です。さすが剣道経験者、コツはすぐに掴んだ様です。この日初バイトは私来ました！サイズ的にはリーガル以下の平目を、最近の爆釣パターン！！PT100DDをキャストしボトムノックをし始めたら時からゆっくり巻くパターンでゲットです。最近、ここロングビーチでは表層をFM110で泳がせて喰わせるよりも、ボトムを感じながらゆっくり巻くパターンが釣果が高くFM120DD/SS90V2などが頻繁に使用され、良い結果につながっている。その日の潮に関係があり、満潮時のDDパターンが良い！！！

さて、MIKUさんの方はというと？？とんでも無い事が、おきました。
釣行開始から1時間、またしても！「あ～～！釣れた！！」その声に、目線を向けてみると！！なんと！とんでもない、竿のしなり方です。慎重に引き上げた先には、超大型の25.5インチのヒラメ！！MIKUさん恐ろしいです。前回と良い今回、大物を釣り上げる何か持ってます。ここカルフォルニア州の法律では、ヒラメは22インチ以上でないと持ち帰れない法律があります。その22インチを釣る事ですら、釣り人の皆が困難の中、彼女は初の岸釣りで、しかも！！PT100で釣ってのけちゃいました。感服です。

私は・・・この1年間、何回もロングビーチに通ってヒラメ釣りをしてますが、1度も２２インチ以上を釣り上げた事すらありません。悔しいです・・・これからは、MIKUさんに色々教わりたいと思います。

“Introduction to Fishing – Shore Fishing”

I’m off to go shore fishing from the beach with our new employee Miku. With this she will experience all 3 styles of fishing: Bass, boat, and shore fishing. We started fishing from early morning in Long Beach where lately it is said to have a high count of catches. This will be her very first Halibut fishing experience as well. Miku has almost no fishing experience, but yet her casting skills are already excellent! With her Kendo experience, she must know how to seize techniques fast. Our first bite of the day was by me, but the size of the Halibut was less than legal size. I used my latest fishing pattern that’s been getting me a lot of bites! I cast the PT100DD and started knocking the bottom then I would slowly retrieve. Especially lately in Long Beach, instead of using the FM110 to swim on surface, there is a better chance in getting a bite when you go a deeper range while feeling the bottom surface. I frequently use the FM120DD & SS90V2 with that fishing pattern and been getting a pretty good result with it. However, it does depend on the condition of the tide, but it is the best to use the DD during high tide!!!

Well then… as for how Miku did, something very shocking happened!
After about an hour since we started, I hear Miku screaming, “Aaaah~~! I caught one!!” So I look over and…!! Her rod was bent tremendously! After carefully pulling it up, there was a huge, 25.5in Halibut!! I was stunned by Miku… Even from last week, she just might have something that gets big ones. Here in California, the law is if you catch a halibut less then 22in you can’t take it home. And to even catch a Halibut larger than 22in is very difficult for all fishermen, but at her very first shore fishing experience with the PT100 she surpassed that. I am extremely impressed.

I’ve been to Long Beach many times this past year and aimed for Halibut, but never did I catch a Halibut over 22in. I am mortified… From now on, I would like to learn a lot from Miku instead.

世界中のラッキークラフトファンの皆さま～！Daily Flash Minnow Weekly Reportになります！

今回は、新入社員のＭＩＫＵさんとニューポートビーチから船での釣行！！釣り経験ゼロのＭＩＫＵさんに魚を釣る楽しさを学んでもらい、これから一緒にDaily Flash Minnowを盛上げ、彼女は「ラッキー釣りガール」への道を記事で書くことなりますのでお楽しみください。本日から、釣りの基本でもある、ノットの結び方・キャストから手助けしたいと思います。

さて、船はハンティングトン沖からロックフィッシュ・サンダブ・スコーピオン狙いです。船釣り始めてのＭＩＫＵさんは、なかなか底を取れず、バイトをいただけない状況！私も1年前まで釣り経験ゼロ！彼女の気持ち良く分かります。きちんと、底さえ取れれば、魚が喰う状況化でしたので、底を取れた感覚さえ感じ取れればいいのだが、思った以上に分かりにくそう・・・そんな中、僕の竿に当たりが！！あたった感覚からして、根魚ではなくどうも走り回るので回遊魚系！？ＭＩＫUさんに魚のランディングの感覚を体感してもらうため、竿を交換し釣り上げてもらった。初のサバをゲットです。（交換したＭＩＫＵさんの竿にはヒトデが掛かってました。珍プレー！！）

そろそろ、船が戻る時刻になり、その時です。「あっ～～～！！魚！！」の声が。釣り上げてみると、大型サイズのスコーピンです。

ＭＩＫＵさん！！人生初の一人で釣り上げた魚です。（なんだか、彼女・・大物を釣る予感17インチもありました）

“Introduction to Fishing”

This time we went on boat fishing from Newport Beach with our new employee Miku!! She has absolutely no fishing experience, but starting today I want her to learn the joy of fishing and bring up this Daily Flash Minnow blog site together. She will become our new “Lucky Fishing Girl” and will also begin writing articles about her experiences, so please stay tuned! Today I will be helping her out with the basics including knot tying and casting.

The boat took off to Huntington Beach offshore and we will be aiming for some Rockfish, Sanddab, and Scorpion. Since it was Miku’s first boat fishing experience, she was having a difficult time getting the lure to the bottom and couldn’t get any bites. I completely understand how she feels because just a year ago I was in the same shoes. If only she was able to get to the bottom, the fishes would most likely come for it, but it seemed pretty hard for her to understand the feeling of it hitting the bottom… While then, I got a bite!! I could feel it swimming around so I was guessing it might be a Mackerel. I wanted Miku to feel how the rod felt when a fish is caught so we traded rods and had her retrieve. It was my very first Mackerel! (Miku’s rod on the other hand had a starfish caught on it!)

When it became about time to go back, we hear a yell, “Ah~~~!! Fish!!” Miku caught a large size Scorpion!

Miku you did it!! It was her very first fish! (I’m starting to have this feeling she just might catch big ones… The Mackerel was 17in!)
