After such a good session last Saturday at Long Beach, Peter and I decided to see if we could get lucky again. We found that the nicer sized halibuts were hanging out in deeper water so we both tie on the FM120DD. I went with the Salty Pearl White given to me a year ago from Sandy, and Peter went with the Aurora Barred Surf Perch color that he did so well with last week. We went with a medium/fast retrieve because they seemed to really like that approach the last time we were here. Peter would go on to catch 2 halibuts from 20″-21,” we knew that the bigger halibut would be around. A few moments go by and Peter asks if he could try my lure out. I give him my rod and on the first cast BAM! I can tell from the excitement on Peter’s voice that this was going to be a big fish. I go and grab the net from above Peter and can see the fish getting closer and Peter yells “Dude it’s huge!” I try to net the fish the first time and he gets spooked and pulls major drag. Attempt number 2 and I finally get him in the net! Peter and I were super excited! This beast would measure out to be 33 inches, Peter’s new personal best! Now our new goal is to hit the 3 feet mark. Man, I hope that this great fishing keeps up!

P.S. I think we need a bigger net.
